Or maybe we get a kick out of witnessing chaotic scenes play out in an operating theater. At least one doctor believes it’s because we have a morbid fascination with nature.
In particular, “our own amazing bodies, and all the things that can go wrong, but that are thankfully not going wrong for us in the moment” said Dr. Marian Rissenberg during an interview with Bustle. Rissenberg is a New York-based clinical neuropsychologist.
“I imagine that on some subconscious level, we cannot help but be intrigued at seeing something so socially unacceptable and morbid,” said emergency medicine technician, Dr. Sonia Shah.

Thought this was interesting – you can see the ridge on my nails where the chemo damage starts. I finished chemo in June, so this is almost two months of healthy growth.
The ring finger nail is only attached by the small patch at the bottom – the rest is just free. The bruising (?) on the middle nail is mildly uncomfortable and I expect that’s the next nail to detach. Interestingly, my thumb nail escaped largely unharmed, except for one large ridge!
